Just one day after officially announcing new signing Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid continued to announce a 1-year contract extension with veteran midfielder Luka Modric. Thus, the Croatian captain will be attached to the Bernabeu until the end of the 2024/25 season.

This is considered an understandable move from Real Madrid, especially in the context of them having just said goodbye to Toni Kroos – Modric’s close teammate in midfield. Renewing Modric’s contract will help Los Blancos maintain stability and experience in the central area of the pitch, while ensuring balance in the squad.
Modric joined Real Madrid in 2012 and has become a symbol of the club. Over the past 12 seasons, the Croatian midfielder has won 19 major titles with Real Madrid, including 5 UEFA Champions League titles and 6 La Liga titles.
Despite turning 39, Modric still shows impressive performance. In the 2023/24 season, he played 46 matches in all competitions, scored 2 goals and contributed 8 assists.
With the contract extension, Modric will have another year to contribute to Real Madrid and continue to conquer noble titles.
Real Madrid’s decision to extend Luka Modric’s contract is a wise one. Modric is still a top player and will continue to play an important role in the Los Blancos squad.
