Cristiano Ronaldo continued to be ranked as the main starter and contributed significantly to the Portuguese team’s brilliant victory over Türkiye in the second match of Group F of EURo 2024.

This 39-year-old superstar was the one who accelerated to break the offside trap to catch a pass from his teammate, then assisted Bruno Fernandes to easily score the winning goal for the home team in the 56th minute.

The assist situation should help Cristiano Ronaldo continue to create record milestones in Europe’s most prestigious arena at the national team level.

Specifically, with the pass for Bruno to score, Ronaldo had a total of 8 assists at EURO tournaments, equaling the achievement of legendary Karel Poborsky of the Czech Republic.

Not only that, Cristiano Ronaldo also went down in history as the oldest player to have an assist at EURO (39 years and 138 days).

Ronaldo is also the player with the most appearances in EURO history with 27 matches.

Previously, this superstar also set a record on the opening day of EURO 2024 when he was named in the main squad of the Portuguese Team in the 2-1 comeback win against the Czech Republic.

Specifically, Ronaldo entered UEFA EURO history as the first player to participate in the tournament 6 times (in 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024).

The first EURO tournament that CR7 participated in was in 2004, the tournament was held in Portugal. At that time, he was only 19 years old.

This will probably be a record that will take a long time to be broken because those with the number of participations closest to him will hardly have a chance to attend EURO 2028.

Two players currently have 5 appearances in EURO including Pepe (2008, 2012, 2016, 2020, 2024) and Luka Modric (Croatia 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020, 2024). Meanwhile, the group of four-time EURO players still playing includes Toni Kroos, Thomas Mueller and Manuel Neuer, Ivan Perisic, Wojciech Szczesny, Andriy Yarmolenko and Olivier Giroud.

Currently, Ronaldo is also the best striker in the tournament with a total of 14 goals, far ahead of second place Michel Platini (9 goals).

CR7 still has many opportunities to create more miracles in the Portuguese shirt when he has at least two matches ahead at EURO 2024.

Ronaldo will likely still play in the match against Georgia in the final round of Group F and does not rule out the possibility of scoring his first goal in this year’s tournament in that match.

If he scores, Ronaldo will not only break his own record but also become the oldest player to score at EURO. This record currently belongs to Austrian international Ivica Vastic, who scored from the penalty spot in ιnjury time against Poland at EURO 2008 at the age of 38 years, 257 days.

Along with Ronaldo, veteran midfielder Pepe also continued to set a new career record when he was placed in the starting lineup by Coach Roberto Martínez.

Specifically, by appearing in the victory over Türkiye, Pepe continued to increase the record for the oldest player to appear in a EURO Final at the age of 41 years and 116 days.

With Portugal winning the right to continue in this year’s tournament, Pepe will definitely still be on the field to set this record.

Returning to last night’s match at Signal Iduna Park, Portugal was the team that dominated right after the opening whistle and had Bernardo Silva’s opening goal in the 21st minute.

Just 8 minutes later, Portugal doubled the gap after being “gifted” with an own goal in a careless pass by defender Samet Akaydin, thereby holding a big advantage.

After taking a 2-goal lead, Coach Roberto Martínez’s team continuously increased the pressure, but only got another goal to seal the result 3-0 in the 56th minute from Bruno after a clean pass from Cristiano Ronaldo.

This victory helps the Portuguese team have 6 absolute points and officially win the top spot in Group F, thereby only having to face the third-ranked team of Groups A, B or C in the 1/8 round.
