Rio Ferdinand Questions Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Suitability for Midfield Role with England at Euro 2024

Regarding Trent Alexander-Arnold’s capacity to play in midfield for England in Euro 2024, Rio Ferdinand has expressed concerns.

The Three Lions defeated Serbia 1-0 on Sunday, with the Liverpool defender starting in the midfield with Declan Rice.

After playing 69 minutes, Alexander-Arnold was replaced by Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

Roy Keane, who spoke prior to the match, expressed his opinion that the Liverpool player will fare well in the tournament’s groups but will be “ripped to shreds” when facing one of the best countries in that role.

Furthermore, it seems that fellow Manchester United great Ferdinand is concerned about the 25-year-old’s future if the Three Lions advance.

“I just look at it like I’m an opposing midfielder,” he remarked in an interview with Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE.

“As I consider it, I feel that this is a slight against me. It’s disrespectful. No, let me demonstrate for you.

“He is not a specialized midfield player, and I believe that in important games, the little things matter a lot. For example, half a yard may make a huge difference in blocking a striker’s path or allowing someone to enter through a through pass.

“That difference and that detail is where you come stuck when you’re not a specialised centre midfielder, and that’s where our concerns will be.”

Emmanuel Petit, a France veteran, stated on talkSPORT that he believed Alexander-Arnold was “lost” in midfield against Serbia.

Although the 25-year-old has experience in that capacity for England, manager Gareth Southgate may decide to reevaluate his selection there.

In addition to Jude Bellingham, he has Gallagher, Kobbie Mainoo, and Adam Wharton as choices, though he is probably going to go farther ahead.

TalkSPORT will broadcast England’s Group C match against Denmark live on Thursday, giving Southgate a few more days to make his decision.
