Liverpool’s new head coach, Arne Slot, has received a significant boost early in his tenure at Anfield with Luis Diaz dismissing speculation about his potential departure from the club. The Colombian forward, who joined Liverpool from Porto in January 2022, has become a pivotal figure in the Reds’ attack, stepping into a role once held by Sadio Mane.

Since his arrival, the 27-year-old has made an impressive impact, netting 24 goals and providing 13 assists in 98 appearances. His performances have sparked interest from European giants Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona, with Liverpool reportedly valuing him at $96 million (£75 million/€89 million).

Despite these rumors, Diaz has publicly reaffirmed his commitment to Liverpool. Speaking to Gol Caracol, he expressed his contentment with life at the club, stating, “I’m very happy there at Liverpool. It’s a great team and club. I’ve always wanted to play there, so I’m very happy and relaxed.”

Currently focused on international duty, Diaz is in the United States preparing for Colombia’s Copa America campaign, which kicks off against Paraguay on June 24. He emphasized that his attention is solely on the national team for now, saying, “I’m not thinking about anything else. I’m thinking about the national team, which is where we are.”

Diaz’s remarks come as a reassuring signal to Liverpool fans and the club’s new leadership, suggesting that he remains integral to the team’s future plans. Last season, he contributed 13 goals in 51 appearances, helping Liverpool to secure a third-place finish in the Premier League. His standout performances earned him the club’s Player of the Month award for April.

Reflecting on his development at Liverpool, Diaz expressed satisfaction with his progress. “I have grown a lot. From the beginning of my career to today, I feel that with the passage of days, of years, living each experience in each different team, coming to this great club that is Liverpool, leaves you with a lot of learnings,” he said. “You learn more and more to be a professional, to be a better person, to be a good teammate and a good guy. The truth is that I am very happy to be here. Great years are coming for the club, I have no doubt about that. Personally, I will always try to do my best, always try to give 100 percent, to always stand out on the field, which is what I came [here] to do. I’m always grateful to God for every opportunity.”

However, not everyone is entirely convinced. Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher recently hinted that the club might explore strengthening their options in Diaz’s position. Speaking on ‘The Overlap,’ Carragher remarked, “I’d be really interested in the summer. With Liverpool getting a new manager, would that be a position that Liverpool could look at in the summer? Wide left. I think Diaz is good, I don’t think he’s great.”

As Liverpool prepares for a new era under Slot, Diaz’s loyalty provides stability and optimism. His focus on continuing to contribute to the team will be crucial as the club navigates this transitional phase. With the transfer window looming, all eyes will be on how Liverpool bolsters their squad and whether Diaz will continue to shine as a cornerstone of their attacking force.
