TURKISH club Fenerbahce are plotting to enter the race to sign Mason Greenwood — but he is not keen on working with Jose Mourinho.

Manchester United striker Greenwood’s future is up in the air after his loan deal at Spanish club Getafe expired.

Several undisclosed Premier League clubs want the £75,000-a-week striker.

Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Napoli, and Juventus are also foreign clubs.

Fenerbahce entered the competition to recruit the contentious centre forward, who could leave United for about £50m, just days after Jose Mourinho took over as manager.

A source said: “Fenerbahce are interested in Mason, they know he is a quality player and believe Mourinho as manager could be attractive for him.”Former Old Trafford manager Mourinho gave Greenwood a chance.

For the club’s 2018 pre-season US tour, the 61-year-old Portuguese chose the 16-year-old.

Nicky Butt, a former United midfielder, said Mourinho saw Greenwood as a future first-team standout at 15.

Butt, who worked at United’s academy under Mourinho from 2016 to 2018, said: “When Mason was 15, he asked, ‘Who is this kid Greenwood?'”“He said ‘bring him to practice with us’ and I answered, “He’s at school.”

In January 2022, Greenwood was arrested for attempted rаpe and viоlence.Later, prosecutors dismissed all charges.

After an internal review, United management decided Greenwood should leave Old Trafford.

After joining Getafe on a season-long loan in September, he earned player of the season with ten goals and six assists in 36 appearances.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, United’s new minority owner, said the club needed to make a “fresh decision” earlier this season to bring back the controversial player.

Greenwood, 22, is one of United’s retained players and has a contract until 2025, an option to extend it by 12 months..
