According to Gazzetta dello Sport (page 13), Manchester United is in a four-way fight with Arsenal, AC Milan, and Juventus to recruit Joshua Zirkzee this summer.
For Bologna past season, the Dutch striker tallied 12 goals and seven assists. He was instrumental in the Serie A team’s Champions League qualification.
In spite of this, Zirkzee is expected to take on a more difficult task. It is stated that from July 1 to August 15, his £34 million release clause will be in effect.
Along with Juventus, AC Milan is putting a lot of effort into signing him, but Gazzetta dello Sport claims that United and Arsenal may have the financial upper hand.
According to reports, a player’s pay and agency commissions may influence a transfer.
Hojlund would benefit from having Zirkzee as a rival
Next season, Rasmus Hojlund will have competition from a new striker for United. Zirkzee, who is only 22 years old and has a lot of space to grow, would be a good addition.
The Dutchman’s hold-up play has drawn attention, but his distribution, dribbling abilities, and high pushing in the latter part of the pitch have also impressed.
These qualities fit manager Erik ten Hag’s preferred style of play. Based on form and opponent, Zirkzee and Hojlund might alternate positions in the upcoming season.
Zirkzee’s current weekly salary is £19,000. He could be easily convinced by United with a significant rise. He might be paid £85,000 a week, which is the same as Hojlund’s salary range.
The Gunners, who can afford to pay both the player’s demands and the commission for his agent Kia Joorabchian, may be United’s greatest rival.
Therefore, before the buy-out provision goes into effect in July, United must be proactive in their pursuit of the player and reach a verbal agreement with him and his agency.
