Caoimhín Kelleher, the goalkeeper for Liverpool, is preparing to discuss his future at Anfield with Arne Slot, the new manager. Due to injuries, Kelleher has played in more games than he has in any previous season, even though No. 1 Alisson Becker missed a significant portion of it.
Due to Kelleher’s involvement, Jürgen Klopp’s choice to keep him on last summer—when he was strongly connected to leaving—was vindicated. According to BBC Sport, Nottingham Forest made another attempt to challenge Liverpool in January, but Liverpool resisted.
With Alisson back to full strength, Kelleher finished the season as backup once more. He has reiterated his desire to be the team’s first choice and said he will meet with Slot and the management team this summer.
The Republic of Ireland goalkeeper stated, “I got the taste for it and I want to do it all the time,” in an interview with The Athletic. Being a No. 1 is my major goal, and while it would be fantastic if it could happen at Liverpool, I’m not naive. I am aware that Ali has long since established himself as the world’s finest goalie.
“I do believe that becoming a No. 1 is the next step for me, whether it’s here at Liverpool or someplace else. I’ve had a great time at Liverpool, and maybe I’ll be here for more. However, I believe my time as a No. 2 is over. Being a No. 1 is the current goal. I’m capable and prepared.
“Over the next few weeks, there will be some conversations. The manager’s departure and the appointment of a new one kept the club occupied. There will be those conversations given the influx of new employees.
Kelleher also talked about his conversations with Klopp last summer, during which the German coach persuaded him to stay put. “I wouldn’t say I was pushing,” he continued, “but I did need to move forward with my career.”
“‘We really need you to be there if anything happens to Ali,’ added Jürgen. I played 26 games this season, so everything worked out well. I’m happy with this season since I’ve truly shown my abilities.”
