The 31-year-old Manchester United defender announced this month that he will be leaving Old Trafford in the summer. His contract expires at the end of June.

Due to ιnjury, Raphael Varane was only able to make 32 appearances in all competitions during the 2023–24 season, including only 16 Premier League starts.

Erik ten Hag, the manager of United, had overlooked the impact of the former Real Madrid player in his backfield and his collaboration with Lisandro Martinez during the 2023–24 campaign.

In Erik ten Hag’s first season at Old Trafford, Varane and Lisandro Martinez formed a strong defense duo that made an impression.

Unfortunately, injuries ended Martinez’s run in the starting lineup for the 2023–24 campaign, forcing Ten Hag to experiment with various defensive pairings.

Varane and Martinez, however, were reunited in the United backline for their final game together, and they provided the team with exactly what they were lacking all season.

Varane on his future post-Man Utd

Following the Red Devils’ 2-1 victory against Manchester City in the FA Cup final, Erik ten Hag put an end to Manchester United’s eventful season.

United put up a dominant display, with goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo in the first half, and Pep Guardiola’s team found it difficult to contain them.

Late in the second half, Jeremy Doku gave City a response with a long-range goal, but United persevered and defeated their rivals handily.

Following the FA Cup victory over the weekend, Raphael Varane was able to leave Old Trafford with his second major trophy as a United player.

Varane’s contract ends at the end of June, and clubs may choose to sign him as a free agent. Varane was strongly connected to the Saudi Pro League in 2023.

The former France international acknowledged that his future is still up in the air and that his main goal was to play for United one last time in remarks made during the FA Cup final.

But Varane, who began his career at Lens before joining Real Madrid in 2011, wouldn’t rule out France as a possible destination for his future.

Get French Football News reports that he said to beIN Sports, “I don’t know [where I will go].”

I’ll need some time to reflect. All I wаnted was to return for the final.

“A trip back to France? Anything is conceivable. I have one more contract left. I’ll give it some serious thought because this is the first time in my career that it has occurred.

Ten Hag on Man Utd’s ιnjury record

Speaking following United’s victory in the FA Cup final, Ten Hag emphasized that the team’s performance highlighted the issues the team has been facing due to the season’s spate of injuries.

“The players were not with us. According to Manchester United’s official website, “You are right, we have seen the same thing; it has not always been good football.” he stated.

However, we have had to give up a lot, which means you can’t play the style of football you want to.

“In the two years I’ve been here, we may have had the entire squad available three or four times.

“Players like Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, and Casemiro were not on board today again.”
