Liverpool Initiate Talks to Secure Signing of £85 Million Player

Liverpool has been keeping an eye on Antonio Silva for the past almost two years, and the most recent media claims seem intriguing.

According to O Jogo, the Reds were interested in signing the teenage defender from Benfica back in October 2022.

The renowned Portuguese news outlet published another rumor in January 2023 that suggested the Anfield club was interested in recruiting the young player.

Now that Matip is expected to depart and Van Dijk is past his prime, Liverpool is looking for a new center defender, and Antonio Silva’s name has surfaced once more.

In an exclusive story, Caught Offside revealed that Liverpool had reached out and had discussions in an attempt to finally entice the 20-year-old.

The nine-cap international has an £85 million release clause in his current contract with Benfica, but most suitors would not be willing to meet the asking price.

In addition to the Merseysiders, the 20-year-old center defender is being pursued by Arsenal, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain.

With the Eagles, Silva has already won two significant championships in Portugal, including Primeira Liga last year.

He made 50 appearances in all competitions and kept 20 clean sheets in 20 Benfica games during the 2023–24 season.

The Reds, who have been a fantastic asset to Anfield since 2018, must get ready for life without Virgil van Dijk.
