Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is unsure whether he will be well enough to play in the FA Cup final against Manchester City this weekend.

Maguire had a muscular injury at the beginning of May, and it was revealed that he would be out for about three weeks, putting his participation in the FA Cup final in doubt.

In April, the defender battled through knocks against Bournemouth and Coventry before suffering another injury in training that forced him to miss time.

Although Maguire was deprived of the leadership last summer, he has had a rebirth this season, and the news of his injury was a blow to United.

Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane have returned from injury since Maguire’s muscular ailment, but if he passes a fitness test, he might start in the FA Cup final.

Speaking to talkSPORT on Wednesday, Maguire provided an update on his fitness status, saying: “Obviously, getting hurt is upsetting and frustrating.

“I’m still not sure if I’m going to be fit. This is going to be a late one. I’m aiming to make the FA Cup final squad, but it’ll be a close call.”

Maguire had a groin injury in December and was out of action during the holiday season before returning to fitness at the end of January.

“It’s probably the first time in my career that I’ve had a few muscle injuries throughout the season,” Maguire explained of his injuries. “It’s frustrating and feels weird. You constantly want to play, so maybe I should look at how I manage myself and things like that.”

Maguire started on the bench when United won the Carabao Cup in February and came on as a substitute in the 88th minute to seal victory.

The FA Cup final is Maguire’s chance to win his second trophy at United. “It would mean absolutely everything,” he replied.

“Playing for this club requires winning trophies. We achieved it last year, and now we have the possibility to get another one at the end of a difficult season. That is our main focus.”

The former United captain has received accolades for his impressive individual efforts this season, and he has made a total of 31 appearances across competitions.
