Three Reasons Trent Alexander-Arnold Should Reject Real Madrid for New Role at Liverpool

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been persuaded by Emmanuel Petit to forego Real Madrid and remain at Liverpool for the summer. Carlo Ancelotti is trying to bolster his team even more, and the 25-year-old defender has recently been thinly connected with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Alexander-Arnold has made 26 appearances in the Premier League this season, tallying three goals and dishing out four assists. His contract at Anfield expires in 2025. His strong first-half performances, which included crucial roles in draws against Manchester City and Arsenal, enabled the Reds to launch a title challenge.

However, since sustaining a severe knee injury in February, the England international has found it difficult to return to his previous level of performance. Since then, after suffering expensive losses to Crystal Palace and Everton, Jurgen Klopp’s team has eliminated itself from the title contest.

However, as Alexander-Arnold’s current contract is slated to expire at the end of the upcoming season, his future is somewhat questionable. Petit thinks the right-back should remain at his boyhood club even if he might be available for free in a year.

What La Liga transfer expert now hears about Trent & Real Madrid

The former defender for Chelsea and Arsenal stated, “Very few English players have left the country to play elsewhere, in an interview with Grosvenor Sport. Is Trent in need of a fresh challenge now?

“I personally hope that he would embrace his leadership role and assume greater responsibilities in the upcoming season. There are moments when it doesn’t seem like the grass is greener on the other side, and I don’t think Trent will give in to Real Madrid’s demands.

“He’s at Liverpool in a cocoon, surrounded by love and support, and he almost ever misses a match. He could be better off sticking in his comfort zone if he continues to play the way he does on defense for Real Madrid since I don’t think the fans will tolerate that either.”

The Liverpool contracts of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk also expire in June 2025. In a March interview with talkSPORT, Peter Moore disclosed that Michael Edwards will give top priority to signing the three players to new contracts.

The former CEO of the Reds stated, “Let’s not forget, you’ve got Virgil and Trent and Mo on contracts that are expiring.” “Whoever takes over, Michael will be at the forefront of this, so they need to close those deals quickly.”

“Or not, but you want to be able to lock these players down because you don’t want the Saudis to be circling again. You consider the veteran’s perspective there, and Trent qualifies as a veteran in my opinion. Together with the young players coming through the academy, you have a team that a new manager can build around.

“But you want your captain to be tied down, you want your global superstar Mohamed to be tied down, and you want your local Scouser from West Derby to be tied down, those are the three players that are up for bids.”
