LeBron James was midway through his postgame interviews on Wednesday night when he became sidetracked by his son Bronny’s USC game versus Arizona following the Lakers’ victory over the Mavericks.
Since James is typically taller than all of the reporters gathered around him, he always gets the best view of the television in his locker room when Pac-12 basketball is played.
On Wednesday, the Trojans lost 82-67 to the No. 12 Wildcats, with Bronny starting for the team. Five minutes into the second half, the older James seemed to have changed from being a Lakers star to a helpful father, and back, on camera.
This is because, with 15:05 remaining in the second half, LeBron made a comment about his son failing to make a layup, which was recorded in the game’s official box score only once.
As he was responding to a query, he exclaimed, “Pull it!” I apologize, but pull it! Take it out! Well, nice pass! Man, get that f***in ball! That’s why you shoot it!’ he said, striking a balance between his media duties and his excitement with his son’s game.
While continuing to hold a microphone in front of the first-ballot Hall of Famer, more of James’ Lakers teammates and reporters turned to watch USC play with every proud yelp.
“As long as we create opportunities for him, teams won’t double-team him,” LeBron remarked in reference to fellow player Anthony Davis. “So, it’s our responsibility to ensure that we’re positioned correctly… shoot it!”
The younger James, a freshman at USC, has become an important member of the Trojans following a cardiac arrest event in July of last year that was caused by a congenital heart abnormality.
The James family has long been the subject of rumors of a potential NBA team-up, even though the father and son have never participated in formal competitions together.
LeBron has made no secret of his ambition to play professionally alongside his son.
Given that Bronny is 19 and LeBron turned 39 last month, there is not much time for it to happen.
Despite the fact that it is a likely move for the Trojans’ guard, the younger James has not yet declared his decision to enter the NBA Draft this summer.
The next time the James duo’s game schedules coincide is on January 27, when the Lakers take on the Warriors and USC meets rival UCLA.
