Scotland is concerned about Scott McTominay’s health after the Manchester United midfielder had to leave the game due to a troubling knee issue.

In the 65th minute of the Red Devils’ 1-1 draw with Burnley at Old Trafford this afternoon, McTominay was substituted in for Kobbie Mainoo. However, the hero of the Tartan Army only lasted 25 minutes when Mason Mount took his place, seemingly due to a knee injury.

The 27-year-old hit the ground with apparent distress, and the physio quickly arrived to treat his knee. Walking from the pitch limping, McTominay cut an upset figure, unwilling to continue. Eirk ten Hag, the under-fire manager, acknowledged before to the game that the playmaker, who had just recently recovered from an injury, wasn’t fully healthy and could only play half of the game.

However, it seems that the choice to substitute him has backfired significantly, which will worry Steve Clarke a great deal, especially with 48 days left before Scotland takes on Germany as the host nation in the tournament.

Lewis Ferguson, the captain of Bologna, has already missed games for the Scots due to cruciate ligament surgery. While Stuart Armstrong, Nathan Patterson, and Aaron Hickey must all fight against the clock to make the squad following injuries.
