Casemiro Advised that Manchester United’s Newcastle Showdown Might Serve as His Old Trafford Farewell

Jamie Carragher, a Liverpool icon, believes that Casemiro’s upcoming matchup against Manchester United at Old Trafford next week could be his last on home field for Newcastle United.

Erik ten Hag employed the Brazilian midfielder as a backup center defense in the Red Devils’ 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace, but the player was exposed. They now trail Eddie Howe’s Magpies, who are in sixth place, by two points. The teams will play each other again the following week.

As we head into the last straight, the battle for sixth place is intensifying, with Manchester United currently trailing Chelsea on goal differential. After Monday night’s loss, Carragher called out Casemiro’s performance on Sky Sports and advised the Brazilian to end his Premier League career.

In the middle of the Manchester United defense, Casemiro and former Sunderland loanee Jonny Evans had a forgettable evening, and veteran Liverpool defender Carragher thinks the Brazilian’s time at the top is running out.

Carragher recommended Casemiro, a five-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid, to leave European football this summer, saying that next week’s matchup with Newcastle should be his final at Old Trafford despite having a contract there that extends until June 2026.

“I think Casemiro should know himself as an experienced player that he should only have another three games left at the top level – the next two league games and the FA Cup final,” Carragher said. “He should be thinking, ‘I need to go to MLS or Saudi (Arabia)’. I’m deadly serious. He’s been an absolute great and I am nowhere near what that man has achieved, but I always remember something when I retired myself – leave football before football leaves you.”

“The football has left him, at this top level, he needs to call it a day at this level of football and move. The level of that player, he should not be putting himself through this, he is too good of a player to be putting in a performance like that and being laughed at by Crystal Palace.

“He’s not playing Man City or Real Madrid, a man of that level should not be going through what he is going through now and he needs to call it a day.”

Carragher was likewise unimpressed with Antony’s gesture of putting his hands to his mouth while speaking with Mason Mount and Andre Onana as they left the field.

“Just get off the pitch,” he continued. Whispering and chatting behind your hand—they’ve been terrible. He’s most likely referring to the manager or one of the players. Simply shut up and enter. It’s really embarrassing.”
