After the first half, Diogo Jota voiced his dissatisfaction with Fulham’s decision to re-enter the game. But after Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Fulham, comparing the result to the flow of ketchup, he feels the team has turned the corner.

Less than two weeks after his two-month hiatus ended, Jota scored his first goal. He added to goals from Trent-Alexander Arnold and Ryan Gravenberch to make it 2-1 the day after Timothy Castagne equalized at Craven Cottage.

On a day when Jurgen Klopp’s team tied Arsenal at the top of the rankings, it was Jota’s 10th Premier League goal of the season.

Jota believes that in Klopp’s last season as manager, their performance in west London will spur a perfect finish. They are aiming for their 20th league title. Premier League Productions (via Liverpool Echo) was informed by him:

Sometimes it’s like ketchup, I like to say, because everything flows together when the first drop comes out. I’m hoping the squad feels that way. We will play again in three days, so let’s take that three goals today on the road.

“Obviously, I didn’t play for a while and wasn’t in the starting lineup, and from home, I think we occasionally missed this goal, which adds a little extra comfort and kind of ends the game.”

“It’s huge for us; as I mentioned, the game was excellent, particularly in the second half. That must be considered for the upcoming game.

Jota’s reaction to the game was not entirely favorable, though. Jota, a Portugal international, also berated the squad for failing to stop Fulham at the end of the first half:

I have to admit that the way we gave in was a little immature on our part. That was undoubtedly their strongest momentum in the first half, and we were unable to contain it.

We attempted to play quickly even though we only had a few goal-kick opportunities, and I don’t think it was a smart move. And we gave in. That’s Premier League, that’s football.

The Reds desperately needed this win following their losses to Crystal Palace and Atalanta. The team will feel hopeful after this win because they are now inspired and self-assured enough to win the championship.

The Reds’ 3-1 victory away from home this past weekend seemed even more sweet given their difficult season thus far. Jota’s goal and return to the starting lineup highlight how important the Portuguese international is to this Liverpool squad.
