At Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday night, the Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Miami Heat to seal their postseason ticket.
In the hosts’ 105-104 victory, Joel Embiid recorded a game-high 15 rebounds in addition to a team-best 23 points. Nicolas Batum scored 20 points off the bench, including 6/10 three-pointers, while Tyrese Maxey added 19 points and six assists.
Not only was it their last chance to advance from the play-in tournament, but Jimmy Butler also wounded himself after tripping awkwardly after trying to make a layup.
When he was replaced with 19 seconds remaining and Miami down 101-98, the star forward’s night came to an end.
In the opening round of the playoffs, the 76ers will now take on the New York Knicks.
The Heat will play host to the victor of the Eastern Conference matchup between the Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks, who are the nine and tenth seeds, respectively. That game is scheduled for this Friday.
The opening-round series between the winner and the Boston Celtics will begin on Sunday at 1:00 EST at TD Garden.
