PLAYER RATINGS: Gabriel Martinelli’s mistakes prove costly, and Bukayo Saka struggles in Europe again, as Arsenal’s Champions League dreams end in Germany.

Joshua Kimmich’s second-half header was enough to give Bayern the victory over Mikel Arteta’s team at the Allianz Arena.

Arsenal’s season is on the verge of collapse following a disappointing exit to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals. Joshua Kimmich’s second-half header secured a 1-0 victory for the hosts at the Allianz Arena, giving them a 3-2 aggregate victory after a 2-2 draw in north London last week.

It was a disappointing night for the Gunners, who, despite dominating large portions of the game, never looked like scoring against a Bayern side that easily handled the visitors’ threat and advanced to the semi-finals.

Arsenal’s season hopes are hanging by a thread after their defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday, which left them trailing Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

Takehiro Tomiyasu Arsenal 2023-24

Goalkeeper & Defence
David Raya (6/10):
I barely had anything to do in terms of shot stopping. I couldn’t do anything with the goal.

Ben White (6/10)
He did his part defensively, but it would have been nice to see him assist Saka more when he had the ball.

William Saliba (7/10):
Had a good match against Kane. On such a large stage, he appeared calm and composed.

Gabriel Magalhaes (7/10):
Throughout, I remained calm. Strong as always against Kane.

Takehiro Tomiyasu (7/10):
Solid performance after being brought back into the side on the left. I dealt with Sane well.
Martin Odegaard Arsenal 2023-24

Midfield
Jorginho (6/10):
I struggled for the first quarter of an hour, but as the game progressed, I really settled in. Solid performance before being replaced moments after Bayern broke the deadlock.

Declan Rice (6/10):
I struggled for the first quarter of an hour, but as the game progressed, I really settled in. Solid performance before being replaced moments after Bayern broke the deadlock.

Martin Odegaard (6/10):
As usual, he worked hard, but he couldn’t get the ball into dangerous areas to hurt Bayern’s defense.
Kai Havertz Arsenal 2023-24

Attack
Bukayo Saka (4/10):
Always on the edge of things. He was kept quiet and Bayern didn’t have much of the ball. The worst part of his night was the corner kick he took with the last kick of the game.

Kai Havertz (5/10):
Moved and hit hard, which gave Bayern’s back line some trouble, but he never got that one big chance to make something happen.

Gabriel Martinelli (4/10):
All night, I worked really hard to pair up with Tomiyasu on the left side. When he had a big chance in the first half, he put it straight at Neuer and could have done better. He also didn’t track Kimmich for the game-winner.
Mikel Arteta Arsenal 2023-24

Subs & Manager
Leandro Trossard (5/10):
No impact at all having replaced Martinelli.
Gabriel Jesus (5/10):
Never got into the game after being introduced at 1-0. Couldn’t make a difference.
Eddie Nketiah (N/A)
On for the last few minutes.
Mikel Arteta (5/10):
The manager of Arsenal had a bad night. The way he lined up his players seemed good, but they didn’t play their best. Even the subs didn’t help.
