By concluding the 2023–24 NBA regular season with averages of 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 8.3 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game, LeBron James has once again created history.
By doing so, LeBron made NBA history by being the first player to average at least 25 points per game in 20 different seasons. He is now comfortably ahead of the chasing group.
Most Seasons Averaging 25+ Points Per Game
1. LeBron James – 20
2. Kevin Durant – 15
T3. Michael Jordan – 12
T3. Kobe Bryant – 12
T3. Karl Malone – 12
6. Jerry West – 11
T7. Shaquille O’Neal – 10
T7. Allen Iverson – 10
T7. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar – 10
T7. Dominique Wilkins – 10
I don’t think Kevin Durant, 35, will be able to average at least 25 points per game for five more seasons. That record will therefore remain unattainable for a very long time, at the very least.
Given that LeBron is still playing strong and doesn’t appear to be slowing down, there’s a significant probability he will average more than 25 points per game the following season.
James’s critics frequently downplay his scoring accomplishments, claiming that his longevity is the only factor, although no one in NBA history has ever scored as much consistently and at such a high level as James does.
LeBron’s first season, when he averaged 20.9 points per game, was the only occasion in his career when he failed to score at least 25 points per game. It’s absurd that he has been able to score at least 25 points per night for the past 20 seasons running.
LeBron James Outperformed the Pelicans in a Historic Way
With his effort on Sunday against the New Orleans Pelicans, LeBron also created history. The Los Angeles Lakers won 124-108 thanks to the 20-time All-Star’s 28 points, 11 rebounds, 17 assists, 5 steals, and 1 block.
James celebrated his achievement on Instagram. In the process, he became just the fifth player in NBA history to tally 25+ points, 10+ rebounds, 15+ assists, and 5+ steals in a game.
When it comes to LeBron, the possibilities are truly endless. I believe some people are still in the dark about how amazing it is that, at this point in his career, he can still provide performances like these. It’s unlikely that anything similar will ever be seen again.
With this victory, LeBron made sure the Lakers concluded with a 47-35 record, good for the eighth seed in the Western Conference. They are the favorites to win and go on to play the Denver Nuggets in the opening round of the playoffs. They will now take on the Pelicans once more in the NBA Play-In Tournament.
The Nuggets, of course, swept the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals to end their 2022–23 campaign. Additionally, the Lakers have now dropped eight straight games against them overall after losing all three of their regular-season matchups this season. The Nuggets would be the overwhelming favorites if the two teams played again, and for good reason.
But LeBron has built a career off of beating the odds, so I wouldn’t rule out the Lakers entirely in that situation. James added that he feels more optimistic about the playoffs this year than he did last year. It will be intriguing to observe the extent of their success this time around.
