The Golden State Warriors defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 134-120 on Tuesday night at Crypto.com Arena, the Lakers’ home court.
On this week’s Mind the Game podcast, Lakers star LeBron James gave J.J. Reddick an explanation of why it’s so hard to stop the Warriors and their star point guard, Stephen Curry.
James stated, “You have to have reps and reps and reps of actually guarding something uncomfortable,” at the 35:15 point. “It’s uncomfortable to guard Steph, and the issue with our guys in our league is that they don’t like to feel uncomfortable.” And because of their uncomfortable brand of play, Steph and Golden State will always be relevant.”
James said, “I hate it when you don’t have the personnel to matchup,” in response to a question about if he dislikes the way the Warriors play. I detest it.
James scored a game-high 33 points, but it was insufficient to overcome Curry and the Warriors. Klay Thompson scored 27 points to lead Golden State, and Curry scored 23 points on 7 of 9 effective field goals and all six of his three-pointers.
The Lakers’ lead over the Warriors for the ninth-best slot in the Western Conference was reduced to a half-game as a result of their defeat. Now that the seven through tenth places in the West are separated by just two games, both teams are competing for a seed in the play-in tournament.
In Friday’s penultimate regular-season game against the Memphis Grizzlies, James and the Lakers will try to get back on track.
