Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot has been linked to Manchester United and Newcastle United in the wake of the Serie A club’s contract negotiations breaking down.

In the summer of 2022, the Frenchman piqued the curiosity of the Red Devils. Despite an agreement to pay €20 million (£17 million) to the Bianconeri, a transfer never happened because of personal issues.

Rabiot wanted around €10 million (£8 million) a year, but United wouldn’t budge.

Rabiot and the club have remained linked, and according to Calciomercato’s report today, United and Newcastle may be vying for his signature on a free transfer because of his desire to play in the Premier League.

As of June of this year, the midfield player’s contract at Juventus is worth €7 million (£6 million) a year. According to reports, the Bianconeri and Rabiot’s mother and agent Veronique have terminated their contract negotiations.

Rabiot’s summer return to United appears improbable.Erik ten Hag, the manager of United, personally spoke with Rabiot to persuade him to consider a move in 2022. The same impressed the midfielder as well, but personal differences prevented a transaction from going through.

Rabiot has now established himself as a vital member of the Bianconeri squad, but given the Serie A giants’ precarious financial situation, he may decide to take on a new challenge this summer.

We think the Red Devils might not get interested in Rabiot again. At the age of 29, the 2022 World Cup finalist may have outlived his prime within the next season or two.

Christian Eriksen and Casemiro were two examples of similar situations that United has already gone through. Although they did not perform at their best this season, both players were outstanding the previous one.
