Paul Scholes takes aim at star Man United duo for wearing HOODS in training as he despairs at slipping ‘standards’ at his former club in Instagram rant

Star Manchester United players Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo have come under fire from Paul Scholes for donning their hoods up during a soggy practice at Carrington.

The Red Devils are having a turbulent season due to an ιnjury-plagued campaign that has seen them fall to sixth in the Premier League and crаsh out of Europe. Questions are also being raised about the coaching philosophy of under-fire manager Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag’s future as manager of Man United is questionable as worries mount that the team may not qualify for the Champions League as well. Rumors are developing that he may leave in the summer to take a position with new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe. After United shared a photo of Mainoo and Garnacho practicing on Instagram, Scholes—who hasn’t held back when it comes to criticizing his old team this season—expressed his despair at his club’s deteriorating “standards” on social media, which he has since deleted.

‘Don’t mind helmets and gloves but no way can you exercise properly with your hood up… standards begin on the training pitch… bye!’ was the message written by the former midfield player when he published the image on his account.

It happens in the midst of Man United’s turbulent season, as they have dropped to sixth in the league. After being live for several hours, the post was removed from his Instagram story.

Although they are still in the FA Cup, United does not appear to have improved on their success from previous season, when they finished third in the Premier League and won the EFL Cup in Ten Hag’s first season as manager. That has drawn the attention of a few former players for the team, including the Scholes. The 49-year-old, who was coached by Sir Alex Ferguson using more conventional ways, thinks Ratcliffe and INEOS will try to unseat the Dutchman come summertime.

In March, he told Premier League Productions, “What we’re seeing is a million miles away from a team that should be challenging for the league.” Every season seems to be so far off.

“They [INEOS] seem to have already made up their minds,” He won’t likely be back for the upcoming season. No.

“I felt there was a little bit of negativity towards the club the last 10 or 11 years, and especially the last two years,” according to the conversations we’ve heard with Sir Jim. He’s not happy with what’s happening, in my opinion.

“I wouldn’t be shocked if they are currently searching for a new manager.” I’m not saying that’s the best course of action.

Roy Keane and Rio Ferdinand, among others, were critical of United’s ‘kamikaze’ tactics during Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool.

Keane compared their performance in Sunday’s game to that of a “mid-table team” before drawing criticism for Ten Hag’s upbeat interview style following the game. After the match, the former United captain admitted to Sky Sports that he had had a few glasses of alcоhоl.

“I’m not sure how strong that is, but he seemed really positive, and I think that’s admirable because he’s clearly seen something that I’m not seeing right now.”

“Man United is playing like a mid-table team, a small club; you never know what you’re going to get,” he continued.

Meanwhile Ferdinand felt that under the Dutch manager some of the side’s ‘worst tendencies’ were coming to the fore.

I can’t help but stare at him and ask myself, “What is it?” each time, giving him the benefit of the doubt.

“We’re looking for kamikaze, open sesame, no control of the game football,” I remarked yesterday [Sunday] after the game. He has it down pat and is doing a wonderful job at it because that’s what we’re playing.

You may attribute that to injuries; we have a lot of them, but many teams have injuries as well, and they still play the kind of game they want to play. He said, “I don’t think Ten Hag plays this kind of kamikaze chaos football.”

Despite this, the 18-year-old Mainoo is having a fantastic breakthrough season for the Red Devils. He recently earned his senior debut for England and scored his first goal at Old Trafford in the tie with Liverpool on Sunday.

Although he did not score in that match, Garnacho did score twice in United’s 4-3 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last week, increasing his season total to nine goals across all competitions.
