Following a challenging mini-series against the Hawks, the Boston Celtics faced a daunting start against the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday, surrendering 37 points in the first quarter, including 18 in the paint. 

However, they rallied defensively, holding the Pelicans to just 55 points in the final 36 minutes of the game, securing a 104-92 victory.

New Orleans initially capitalized on their energy and physicality, establishing a 10-0 lead in fast-break scoring.

But the Celtics responded adeptly, particularly tightening their defense in the third quarter, where they limited the Pelicans to a mere 11 points on 17.4 percent shooting.

Reflecting on the game, Jrue Holiday emphasized his team’s ability to match the Celtics’ early intensity and elevate their play. 

“We were just responding,” Holiday stated, acknowledging Boston’s strong start. “Just wanted to elevate our play and kind of match their energy.”

Holiday also noted the importance of facing challenging opponents like the Pelicans, who are vying for playoff positioning. 

With the Pelicans on the cusp of overtaking the Los Angeles Clippers for home-court advantage and closely trailed by the Dallas Mavericks, Holiday emphasized the value of facing tough competition.

“I think sometimes you need to get punched in the mouth,” Holiday remarked, highlighting the learning experience gained from challenging matchups.
