In eight minutes, Marcus Rashford gave the visitors the lead.

However, a late strike from Erling Haaland and a brace from Phil Foden gave City a 3-1 victory.

In the end, United managed just 26% of the ball possession and just three shots overall.

And irate spectators believed Garnacho’s unpleasant moment summed up the entire performance. The camera switched to the winger, who had just left the field for Omari Forson.

Unaware that he was on live television, Garnacho sat on the bench.

The Argentine celebrity then seemed to put his finger across his mouth after picking his nose.

People at home who were watching were taken aback. They were not at a loss for words, though.

On X, someone commented, “It’s peak Man Utd right now.”

“United’s best moment of the second half,” said another.

“Needed an energy boost,” one person wrote.

“Lad needs a good meal,” said an additional.

Bruno Fernandes, the captain of United, remarked following his team’s loss: “I think the team showed a lot of commitment.” We had our opportunities.

We occasionally played a little too deep, but as many teams know, City does that. You have to defend your box, and we did a great job of it in the first half. It finished 1-1 from an opportunity that might have been ours.

“Whether it’s City or someone else, there’s always something more you can do in the game. You can always do something better. City is a team skilled at controlling the ball and keeping opponents off the board.

“We should have had more ball time than we did in the second half, but we knew we had to defend our goal really well, and I think we did.”

Erik ten Hag, the manager, said: “I think it was a good performance overall, we went 1-0 up and we had our moments after it to score the second one.”We played excellent defense, but there were two key occasions when we almost broke through and gave up the opening goal.

“Then you are disappointed, we have to accept it and still we had the opportunities to at least get one point, but the win was also possible.”
