With a squad consisting mostly of young players, Liverpool had a gentle 3-0 victory over Southampton in the 5th round of the FA Cup.
Just a few days after winning the Carabao Cup, Liverpool headed to another tournament. This time it was a match in the 5th round of the FA Cup and their opponent was Southampton.
Coach Jurgen Klopp has launched a squad with many young players. There are even people who are only 18 years old.
Southampton was the team with the clearer opportunities in the first half. Unfortunately, Sékou Mara and then Kamaldeen Sulemana wasted the opportunity.
At the time when it seemed like the two teams would take a break with a 0-0 draw, young talent Lewis Koumas had a shot that left the opposing goalkeeper standing still. He dribbled into the middle and then fired a low shot, causing Southampton’s defense system to completely collapse.
Receiving a painful defeat, Southampton rose strongly at the beginning of the second half.
However, this was a day when Liverpool’s central defender duo played focused.
In the 73rd minute, from a delicate pass by Harvey Elliott, a player born in 2006, Jayden Danns slid down and finished delicately, increasing the score to 2-0.
Clearly, Liverpool’s young players are still on a different level than the team from the Championship.
In the 88th minute, Alexis Mac Allister fired a difficult shot that goalkeeper Joe Lumley could not catch. Immediately, Danns successfully kicked the rebound and set the score 3-0 for Liverpool.
Danns came on the field in the 63rd minute and scored a double. Obviously, the more people play, the more they trust Klopp’s 2k young stars.
