VAR JOKE: Disgusting tackle by Caicedo and ‘unreasonable’ red card escape after VAR check make football fans get fury

Quoting from Liverpoolecho, Jamie Redknapp commented on Moises Caicedo’s dangerous situation in the Carabao Cup final.

The Carabao Cup final between Chelsea and Liverpool was tense. Midfielders therefore often enter dispute situations. During a collision, Moises Caicedo kicked the ball violently, causing Ryan Gravenberch to leave the field.

Caicedo was lucky to escape punishment from the referee after the moment he impacted Gravenberch’s ankle. By watching the replay, Jamie Redknapp said that Caicedo made a disgusting foot pedal situation. Specifically, this Sky Sports expert commented:

” It was not a smart dispute, but it was extremely clumsy.  You can see that Caicedo’s foot on the opponent looks disgusting . You can understand why Granvenberch left the field .”

” Caicedo wasn’t watching, he was focused on watching the direction the ball was coming from. It was definitely a yellow card, as he impacted the opponent’s leg. You can see why Jurgen Klopp is not sad and disappointed with that. But I think a yellow card warning is reasonable . “

Gravenberch will join the growing injury list at Anfield alongside other midfielders such as Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones, Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic.

Following a rush that put Ryan Gravenberch on a stretcher, Moises Caicedo avoided receiving a red card.

Liverpool had to play with a patchwork squad in the Wembley final due to the absences of Dominik Szoboszlai, Darwin Nunez, and Mohamed Salah. Things became even worse for coach Jurgen Klopp and his side when Gravenberch was forced to leave the field at the conclusion of the match. 28 minutes after the Caicedo crash.

The fact that Caicedo did not get a penalty from referee Chris Kavanagh and that VAR upheld the decision after considering the circumstances incensed the supporters of Liverpool.

Gravenberch, a Dutch midfielder, had to be helped off the pitch on a stretcher when Caicedo trod on his ankle. After reviewing the situation, the VAR crew determined that the Ecuadorian player would not face a penalty.

This is explained by the fact that the VAR referees did not feel it was essential to overturn the referee’s first ruling since Caicedo’s foul was deemed dangerous but not severe.

The VAR is unable to provide suggestions for issuing a yellow card if one is not awarded right away. But Caicedo was fortunate since he had already fouled Wataru Endo.

The judgment infuriated Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp both on and off the field. His ire increased when Chelsea almost seized the lead shortly after, courtesy of Raheem Sterling, who VAR also deemed to be offside.

Offside prevented Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk from scoring in the second half as well. In the closing moments of the second overtime session, the Dutch defender nonetheless gave The Reds the victory.

Former Premier League referee Mike Dean offered his thoughts on the incident between Caicedo and Gravenberch on Sky Sports, saying, “I think he (Caicedo) got his foot stuck in Gravenberch’s leg, not intentionally.”
