Many times the referee and technology have made controversial decisions in the Carabao Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea.

In the 60th minute of the Carabao Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea , Virgil Van Dijk escaped from Ben Chilwell’s marking to catch Andrew Robertson’s cross before heading the ball past Djordje Petrovic. However, immediately after The Kop’s celebration ended, the referees and VAR technology stepped in to check the situation.

Specifically, the VAR team advised referee Chris Kavanagh about the possibility of an offside error. But the person being targeted was not the scorer, Van Dijk, but midfielder Wataru Endo.

Accordingly, referee Kavanagh came out to look at the VAR screen and determined that the goal was invalid because Wataru Endo blocked the movement of Chelsea midfielder Levi Colwill. Worth mentioning, before that the VAR screen showed that it was checking for offside, not a normal foul.

In fact, if there was an offside error, this decision is still unclear as Endo is said to have stopped to not participate in the ball, not intentionally blocking Colwill’s steps.

Earlier in the first half, VAR also refused to put the ball into Sterling’s net. The cause was determined to be that the person who previously passed the ball to former Man City star Nicolas Jackson was in an offside position.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was left fuming during the EFL Cup final after Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo escaped punishment for a foul that saw midfielder Ryan Gravenberch taken off the field on a stretcher.

The replay shows that after Ryan Gravenberch pushed the ball away, he took the entire Һit from the opponent’s ball. Caicedo’s strong tackle caused the Liverpool player to suffer a serious ιnjury.

The Kop has lost too many pillars due to ιnjury, and with Gravenberch unable to continue playing, it is understandable that the German coach is angry. There was information that Salah and Nunez recovered for the final, but in the end neither was named in the squad. 

Gary Neville said on Sky Sports: “Jurgen Klopp is going crаzy. He’s really going crаzy over there.” Former referee Mike Dean said: “ That was Caicedo’s second foul, and if the referee showed a card, it could only have been a yellow card. It is very difficult to draw a red card in this situation.” 

The match between Chelsea and Liverpool was exciting. There were many opportunities created after 90 minutes of official play, but no team scored a goal. The match then had to go into 2 extra periods. In the 118th minute, Van Dijk scored the decisive goal to help Liverpool win 1-0, thereby winning the English League Cup this season.
