In addition to his achievements on the field, Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk seems to be able to deliver a McDonald’s to your vehicle.

Following his January 2018 £75 million transfer from Southampton to Liverpool, the Dutch defender has been deeply engaged in the local community. Nevertheless, anybody heading to Kirkby McDonald’s this week for some fast lunch would not have expected to see the 6′ 5in center-back in the drive-thru window.

Van Dijk may be seen on social media helping the McDonald’s staff by guiding orders through the window. Naturally, a large throng soon gathered, with kids riveted to the window in the hopes of getting a close-up view of the Liverpool star.

Then a platter of McFlurrys was given to Van Dijk, who was dressed in jeans, a casual pullover, and shoes, to deliver to the waiting patrons. Many comments were made online by admirers who were confused by his presence at McDonald’s.

“He succeeded in making Maccies’ ice cream machine work. He really is capable of anything,” a satirist joked. Another commented, “Getting a Mcflurry off Virgil.” Dreams are made of things like this.

Although the 32-year-old’s reason for being there is unclear, it doesn’t seem likely that he has changed his career path in front of Liverpool’s game against Southampton on Sunday, which ends the season.

More likely, his previous job at the rapid foot shop had an impact on his looks. Van Dijk took part in the company’s earlier this year Fun Football and Happy Readers activities, which encouraged children to read.

Van Dijk said, “I love being able to give back to the community that supports us so passionately,” in recognition of Liverpool’s special location. Like McDonald’s, I really believe that all kids should be able to play and learn. I’m here today because my family and I are really enthusiastic about this topic.

“McDonald’s is helping families by giving them more opportunities to get free books and free Fun Football coaching.”We gave out about three thousand books to children today alone, and from what I saw in the reading area and on the field, we may have some future football players and writers on our hands.

“This week, I had a great time surprising the local kids at a @mcdonaldsuk @funfootballuk x #HappyReaders event,” he also posted on Instagram. We witnessed a lot of grins on their faces, read a little bit, and played a little football.

“I was present to endorse McDonald’s unwavering dedication to providing families with 2 million hours of #FunFootball and 10 million books every year, which is extremely significant for the community.”
