Porzingis and White Unavailable, Holiday Set to Play Against Spurs

Celtics Face Challenge Without Porzingis and White Against Visiting Spurs

Derrick White, Jrue Holiday, and Kristaps Porzingis. Boston Celtics

In an upcoming matchup against the San Antonio Spurs (7-32), the Boston Celtics (31-9) will be without two key players, Kristaps Porzingis and Derrick White. Porzingis is sidelined due to right knee inflammation, an issue he has been grappling with throughout the season, while White sustained a left ankle sprain late in Monday’s game against the Toronto Raptors.

This setback marks White’s fourth missed game of the season, despite having played in all 82 games last season. Porzingis, on the other hand, will be sitting out his 11th game. Stepping into the starting lineup, Al Horford will take on the challenge of guarding the towering 7’4″ sensation Victor Wembanyama. Horford has displayed consistency off the bench this season, averaging 7.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 2.9 assists while showcasing commendable defensive skills.

Despite being listed as questionable, Jrue Holiday will be on the court, overcoming a right elbow sprain. Coming off a stellar performance with 22 points on 50% shooting and 4-6 from beyond the arc, Holiday is expected to play a pivotal role, particularly in the absence of Porzingis and White.

Good news for the Celtics is the return of Jaylen Brown to the starting lineup, as he recovers from a right knee hyperextension that caused him to miss the Raptors game.

The fifth starter remains unannounced by Coach Joe Mazzulla, leaving room for speculation. Oshae Brissett, who has seen increased minutes recently, may be a potential starter. In the previous matchup on New Year’s Eve, Brissett played 21 minutes, exceeding his season average by over nine minutes.

Mazzulla could also consider Sam Hauser or Payton Pritchard to fill White’s spot, although with Horford in the starting lineup, they may be reserved as the first two players off the bench.
