According to the rankings, Granit Xhaka is Switzerland’s top football player for 2023. On Monday night in Bern, the greatest of Swiss football was announced during a ceremony.

Xhaka was deemed the best for the second consecutive time, while competing against Manuel Akanji and Zeki Amdouni. He leads and captains the Swiss national team.

The record for the most appearances made for Switzerland is currently held by the Albanian midfield player. He has now played in 121 matches.

Murat Yakin, the selection, gave Xhaka the trophy of the best.

“Without the support of my wife, who supports me a lot, it would be impossible”, said Xhaka, holding the trophy in his hand.

He also thanked the team and the staff, while expressing his happiness that he was declared the best.

“It is a reward for the work we do every day. I am very happy to have won it again. I am the winner tonight and I will work hard to be here again in a year”, continued Xhaka, who traveled to Bern to accept the award. He is shining at Bayer Leverkusen, the team he is leading in the Bundesliga title race.

Numerous awards were also given out at the presentation on Monday night. Although not disclosed, Valon Fazliu was vying for the second Swiss category’s best of the year title. The Swiss Super League’s best player has also been named, in addition to Switzerland’s greatest player.

“You deserved the award”, was the video message of Manuel Akanji, who addressed Xhaka through a video message during the ceremony.

Xhaka has led Switzerland towards qualifying for Euro 2024. For the third time, he has been declared the best of Switzerland in football. It was announced for the first time in 2017.
