Borja Mayoral breaks his silence on Arsenal over the Gunners’ £22m transfer interest

Arsenal transfer target Borja Mayoral has broken his silence amid the interest from the Gunners.

We revealed this week that the North London club had tabled a £22million bid to Getafe for the striker.

The only player in La Liga who has scored more goals than the 26-year-old this season is Jude Bellingham, an English star who plays for Real Madrid.

Mayoral has scored twice in the Copa del Rey and twelve goals in the top division.

Since November, Arsenal has been actively monitoring the former Real Madrid youth standout who is currently playing for Getafe alongside Mason Greenwood.

After seeming to be priced out of a bid for Brentford’s Ivan Toney, Mikel Arteta is looking to recruit a new striker this month, and his form could now earn him a move to the Emirates.

But Mayoral has now made his first public remarks since we revealed Arsenal’s approach.

He also acknowledged that he was “surprised” by England’s attention, but he insisted that his main emphasis was on carrying out his present side business.

“It’s news that has surprised me too,” he said to Mediaset. Neither my agency nor the club have heard from me.

“Every day, my entire focus is on Getafe.”

Not only is Fulham interested in Mayoral, but Brentford was also rumored to be interested in him last month, thus Arsenal is not the only Premier League team showing interest.

According to SunSport, the Gunners put up a £22 million bid for him in an attempt to outbid their competitors.

However, Getafe rejected their initial offer and is now willing to pay more than £39 million for their star.

Mayoral has forged a great combination with Greenwood, who is on-loan from Manchester United, with the two combining for three goals already.

After a brief loan stint, the star player signed a permanent contract with the Deep Blues in 2022. Despite making just 22 La Liga games for Madrid, the player scored three goals.
