Oshae Brissett Emerges as Potential Solution to Celtics’ Big Wing Void
In the ongoing quest to fill the void left by Grant Williams, the Boston Celtics might find their solution from within the team in the form of Oshae Brissett, as suggested by Bobby Krivitsky of Inside The Celtics.
Krivitsky, shedding light on Brissett’s recent performances, remarked, “A prime internal candidate to solve (Stevens’ big wing) search is Oshae Brissett.” The six-foot-seven forward has seized recent opportunities to showcase his capabilities, making a strong case for himself in the team’s pursuit of a big wing player.
Coach Brad Stevens, addressing the team’s rotation needs on January 4, specifically highlighted the requirement for a “big wing.” Despite limited financial resources, Stevens expressed optimism about finding a suitable candidate either from within the team or through free agency and trades. The coach left the door open for Brissett and other reserve wings to step up and fill the crucial role.
Stevens acknowledged, “I don’t want to say that person is not in the building because they might be right now.” He emphasized the upcoming challenging schedule and travel demands as opportunities for the bench players, including Brissett, to prove their worth.
Boston Celtics’ big wing role was designed to be filled by Oshae Brissett
Brissett, initially designed to take over Grant Williams’ role in the Celtics’ big man rotation, has been recognized by MassLive’s Brian Robb as a potential replacement. Robb labeled him a “very low-cost Grant Williams replacement” if needed, acknowledging Brissett’s youth and promise.
While the Celtics’ top six players have been strong contributors so far, the team’s midseason focus is on Brissett’s development. As the season approaches the halfway mark, Brissett’s performance becomes crucial in preventing the team from exploring external options in the trade market. The outcome could significantly impact his future with the team, including a potential free agency decision at the end of the season.
