Nikola Jokic Expresses Desire for Anonymity in Retirement and a Phone-Free Future
Despite being one of the most recognizable NBA players globally, Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic harbors a desire for a life of anonymity, especially post-retirement. In a revealing conversation on Michael Porter Jr.’s Curious Mike podcast, Jokic opened up about his aspirations for the future and his discomfort with celebrity status.
Expressing his wish for a low-key life after basketball, Jokic stated, “When I finish my career, I really wish nobody knows me. I wish my kid or kids in the future…remember me as a dad. I think that’s gonna be my goal in life.” The Serbian star shares a sentiment similar to Kawhi Leonard, who values privacy and shies away from the superstar lifestyle.
Jokic’s aversion to celebrity life was evident as he remarked, “I really don’t like this life because, at the end of the day, we are just basketball players. We are just good at what we are doing. But the media is something that is around us, and, of course, we are getting paid because of the media, because of our popularity.”
In an intriguing twist, Jokic revealed a unique goal for the future – living without a phone. He expressed a desire to “not have a phone” as part of his larger goal to live in the moment and lead a normal life. “Just to live in the moment, be a normal person,” he emphasized, envisioning simple pleasures like spending time with friends, having lunch, playing with kids, or riding horses without the intrusion of media attention.
The conversation on the Curious Mike podcast provided a rare glimpse into Jokic’s personal aspirations and showcased the camaraderie between teammates. As Jokic continues to make his mark on the court, fans might see more facets of his personality unfold in the future, emphasizing the importance of a balanced and grounded life beyond the basketball spotlight.
