Lakers Stumble Again, LeBron James Voices Frustration
LeBron James did not mince words after the Los Angeles Lakers suffered their 10th loss in 13 games, falling 127-113 to the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night. Despite James contributing 32 points and Anthony Davis adding 31, the Lakers struggled defensively, allowing Memphis to make a season-high 23 three-pointers, leading to their fourth consecutive defeat.
Expressing visible frustration, James bluntly stated, “We just suck right now,” pointing to the team’s recent struggles. Coach Darvin Ham, however, defended the team’s efforts, emphasizing the long NBA season and expressing confidence in their ability to bounce back.
James appeared pessimistic about the team’s current form, rejecting the idea that their success in the recent tournament indicated championship contention, stating, “That was just two games, though. That was a small sample.”
Despite a notable performance from Austin Reaves, who scored 19 points and achieved a career-high 12 assists, the Lakers acknowledged the strain of their losing streak. Anthony Davis urged his teammates to stay united and ignore external pressures, emphasizing the need to find solutions within the existing roster.
Jaren Jackson Jr. and Marcus Smart led the Grizzlies to victory, with Jackson contributing 31 points and Smart hitting a season-high eight three-pointers. Memphis’ strong three-point shooting played a crucial role in their success.
Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins received a technical foul during the third quarter for stepping onto the court to argue about a no-call. Despite the disruption, the Grizzlies rallied, securing only their second win in six games.
The Lakers, missing key players like D’Angelo Russell and Rui Hachimura, now face the challenge of regrouping as they continue their 12-game stretch with just one game outside of Los Angeles. The pressure is mounting, and the team must find a way to reverse their fortunes in the competitive NBA season.
