As the calendar turned to the new year, Denver Nuggets’ veteran point guard Reggie Jackson found his shooting touch, leaving behind a cold streak that plagued him in the final games of the previous year.

Closing out 2023 with a rough stretch, Jackson faced criticism for making only 29.2% of his shots over six games. However, he wasted no time in turning the tide, leading the Nuggets reserves with 15 points and a 54.5% shooting performance in the first game of 2024, contributing to a comfortable win over the Charlotte Hornets on New Year’s Day.

Acknowledging his recent struggles, Jackson emphasized the importance of trusting the work put in behind the scenes. Nuggets coach Michael Malone echoed this sentiment, attributing Jackson’s resurgence to finding his rhythm and maintaining a high level of play.

While Jackson’s health may have played a role in his earlier shooting woes, with issues like a skin lesion and left calf tightness, he remains a stalwart presence in the Nuggets lineup. Alongside Michael Porter Jr. and Christian Braun, Jackson is one of only three players to appear in all 35 games for the team.

Despite dealing with minor strains and fatigue, particularly in his calf, Jackson praised the team’s coaching and medical staff for collaboratively managing the situation and ensuring he can continue to contribute on the court.

“It’s a little tight, fatigued. It’s a minor strain, so you just deal with it, figure out a way to manage it,” Jackson said of his calf. “We’ve got a great coaching staff, great medical staff and training staff. We’re working together, figuring out a plan that allows me to continue to play.”

Having seamlessly transitioned into the lead guard role for Denver’s second unit, Jackson showcased his versatility when injuries to key players elevated him to the starting lineup in November. During that stretch, he demonstrated his scoring ability, recording 14 or more points in 10 of the team’s final 13 games of the month.

Reflecting on his experience playing alongside the Nuggets’ starting lineup, Jackson expressed enthusiasm, likening the team to the Avengers. Despite facing a dip in his numbers in December, the seasoned guard remains focused on the routine, maintaining a positive outlook as the Nuggets prepare for their upcoming game against the Golden State Warriors.
