Alaves 0-1 Real Madrid: Lucas Vazquez scores dramatic late winner to lift Carlo Ancelotti’s side top of LaLiga

For Carlo Ancelotti’s 10-man Real Madrid against Alaves, Lucas Vazquez scored the game-winning goal in injury time to move his team above Girona and to the top of the La Liga standings for the holidays.

Real Madrid knew that a win would be sufficient to overtake the Catalan team after Girona’s draw earlier in the evening, but they played the majority of the second half with just ten men after Nacho was sent off for a poor challenge on Samu Omorodion.

Two minutes into injury time, Vazquez headed in a corner to give his team a 1-0 victory even though it looked like the game would end in a draw.

Earlier, Real Betis and Girona drew 1-1 thanks to a late goal by German striker Pezzella.

Girona is on track for its ninth victory in ten games after Artem Dovbyk scored a penalty kick in the first half.
