NBA Legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Undergoes Successful Surgery for Broken Hip
Basketball icon and Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is on the road to recovery after undergoing surgery for a broken hip sustained during a fall at a Los Angeles concert on Friday night. The NBA Hall of Famer’s business partner and spokeswoman, Deborah Morales, confirmed that the surgery took place on Sunday without any complications.
Morales provided an update on Abdul-Jabbar’s condition, stating, “He will be in recovery for the next three months.” The news follows a series of health challenges for Abdul-Jabbar, including his battle with leukemia in 2009, which he successfully conquered in 2011. In 2023, he disclosed his struggle with atrial fibrillation, a form of irregular heartbeat.
Renowned as one of the greatest NBA players in history, Abdul-Jabbar achieved remarkable success throughout his career. Winning six championships, the Lakers and Bucks star held the title of the all-time leading scorer in NBA history until LeBron James surpassed him last season. Abdul-Jabbar’s impact extends beyond the court, with six MVP awards, two Finals MVP awards, and 19 All-Star appearances.
In addition to his professional achievements, Abdul-Jabbar enjoyed success in college basketball as a key member of the UCLA team, winning three national championships under the coaching of John Wooden. The first overall pick in the 1969 NBA Draft, Abdul-Jabbar’s signature skyhook shot remains an iconic element in NBA history.
Fellow Lakers legend Magic Johnson expressed his support on social media, posting, “I’m wishing my Showtime teammate Kareem Abdul-Jabbar a speedy recovery after falling and breaking his hip! Praying for the Captain!” The basketball community and fans around the world join in the well-wishes for Abdul-Jabbar’s swift recovery.
