After Manchester United and Liverpool tied 0-0 at Anfield, Virgil Van Dijk kept up their fight.
At Anfield, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool were growing angrier as the game progressed, but Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United had excellent defense.
A draw was a reasonable result because Liverpool had more possession of the ball and more of the field during the match, but they were unable to convert any clear-cut opportunities against Manchester United.
Rasmus Hojlund had a fantastic opportunity to put the visitors ahead at Anfield, but Alisson stopped him, so United could feel like they should have won more than a point.
Onana and Van Dijk are
Andre Onana performed admirably at Anfield, demonstrating once again why he is growing accustomed to the rigors of playing goaltender for United in the Premier League.
Onana insisted before the game that he was more than capable of playing for the Red Devils. On Merseyside, he demonstrated this by stopping the home team from scoring the game-winning goal with a series of outstanding saves.
TalkSport’s Alex Crook reports that Onana spoke with Van Dijk as the two squads were heading out. Van Dijk’s anger over the talk will cheer up United supporters.
According to reports, the Cameroonian player replied to Van Dijk, “We only played a half-hour game because of you.”
The former Southampton defender was even more incensed when Onana simply grinned at him without saying anything else.
Van Dijk was also criticized by Roy Keane on Sky for claiming that just one team was attempting to win the match.
The tasks completed by Onana
For Manchester United, 27-year-old Onana was in excellent shape. The errors he committed in the Champions League earlier in the season were more than made up for by his performance at Anfield.
He looked great and made six saves during the game. This will give the Cameroon international’s confidence a world of good after a rough few weeks in goal.
Last month, Onana had another great game at Goodison Park. This clean sheet at Anfield will hopefully be the time when United officially see him as their number-one goalkeeper.
