The Oklahoma City Thunder secured a thrilling 118-117 win over the Denver Nuggets on Saturday night, marked by a game-winning jumper from MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. However, the victory was overshadowed by a significant missed call that could have altered the game’s outcome.

In the NBA’s Last Two Minute Report for the game, a critical missed call was highlighted with 1:11 remaining in the fourth quarter. As Gilgeous-Alexander drove to the basket and missed a layup attempt, Nuggets guard Christian Braun was incorrectly whistled for a foul.

The league’s explanation stated, “Braun (DEN) avoids initiating any illegal contact with Gilgeous-Alexander (OKC) during his drive to the basket and shot attempt.”

The erroneous foul call gave Gilgeous-Alexander two crucial free throws in a game ultimately decided by one point. The Thunder star capitalized on the opportunity, making both free throws and eventually hitting the game-winning shot.

While missed calls are common in basketball, especially in the heat of close contests, this particular error had a direct impact on the outcome of the game. The Nuggets, despite having subsequent opportunities to secure the win, were left to contemplate how the contest might have unfolded differently if the missed call on Braun’s contest had been correctly ruled a no-call.
