Victor Wembanyama, the newest player in the NBA, will have to wait for LeBron James’ matchup with him after the Los Angeles Lakers star was declared ineligible for tonight’s game against the San Antonio Spurs.
Thirty minutes prior to tip-off, the team declared that James, 38, would not be playing tonight due to a left leg contusion.
James began the season on a pitch count in order to protect his body, but he has since participated in 23 of the Lakers’ 25 games.
With a point average of 25.3 points per game, he has contributed to the Lakers’ 14-10 season opening record.
Wembanyama is averaging 18.8 points per game as he starts to get used to the NBA under intense scrutiny, while his Spurs are a pitiful 3-19.
With the Lakers to town on Wednesday night, it appears unlikely that the squad will end their 16-game losing skid.
After defeating the Indiana Pacers in the NBA In-Season Tournament in Las Vegas to become the first team to win the trophy, LeBron and company are about to go on a run of road games.
James then participated in the Tuesday game over the Mavericks, but he will now miss Wednesday’s contest in order to heal from his injury.
The Lakers return to Los Angeles to meet the hottest team in the NBA, the New York Knicks, before heading to Chicago following two games in San Antonio.
