CONFIRMED: Klay Thompson turned down a two-year, $48 million extension this past offseason and currently has no offers on the table

Klay Thompson, a standout shooting guard for the Golden State Warriors, is now in the final year of his deal; nevertheless, it has been claimed that the team made an effort to secure his future by extending his contract over the offseason that just ended.

As stated by Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, “When they were discussing a contract extension prior to the beginning of the season, they were not close to reaching an agreement on a contract extension.” From what I’ve been informed, the Warriors extended Klay Thompson a contract worth approximately $48 million over the course of two years prior to the start of the season, but there is no agreement in place at this time.

In spite of the fact that Thompson was one of the most significant players for the Warriors during their run of four NBA titles in eight years, he has been struggling to get off the ground since the beginning of the 2023-24 season. With 22 games under his belt, he has recorded career lows of 15.4 points per game, 39.7 percent shooting from the field, and 34.3 percent shooting from outside the arc during his career.

Thompson concluded with seven points despite shooting only two of ten shots and suffering a defeat against the Phoenix Suns by a score of 119-116 on Tuesday. During the crucial moments of the game, he was replaced on the bench by rookie guard Brandin Podziemski, who came off the bench to score 20 points, grab 11 rebounds, and dish out five assists. It is possible that this is the beginning of a trend that will continue to expand. Both starters Andrew Wiggins and Kevon Looney got minimal involvement in the game, which was in favor of younger players.

At the moment, the Warriors are in the eleventh position in the Western Conference and the last position in the Pacific Division. Their record is 10-13. Thompson is the second-leading scorer on the club, behind only Stephen Curry, who is the only Golden State player to average more than 20 points per game or 29.4 points per game. This is despite the fact that Thompson has struggled and has averaged little.

Whether or whether Thompson will be able to turn around his season is something that remains to be seen. Should he fail to do so, it will undoubtedly have an effect on his forthcoming free agency, and it is highly probable that he will be remorseful for declining the rumored extension offer from the Warriors.
