The Liverpool boss made a joke regarding the club’s failed summer transfer attempts to sign the two.
Jurgen Klopp has spoken out about Liverpool’s failure to recruit Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, while also mocking the Chelsea duo.
Caicedo and Lavia both snubbed moves to Anfield in the summer in favor of Stamford Bridge, with the Blues paying more than £150 million for the midfield combination.
Caicedo has since struggled to recreate the form that sparked interest from Chelsea and Liverpool, while Lavia is yet to make his debut following a string of injuries.
Klopp was asked about his reformed side and their march to the top of the Premier League table on Monday at the Anfield Road Stand test event, and he said he believes the club dodged a few of bullets with the arrival of Wataru Endo as a third-choice player.
He said: “The summer we had, we had a few strange things happen in the transfer market but here, between us, I can say ‘My god, were we lucky, eh?’”
“We didn’t know that in that moment and it didn’t feel like it in that moment, but yeah, I’m really happy that it worked out, but you never know before.
He added: “We obviously realised that other central defensive midfielders don’t want to join Liverpool, you see what happens, and then we found Endo. He’s an exceptional player … He wanted to come definitely and that helps.”
