LeBron is the first Lakers player to score 20 points, 10 assists and 5 steals in a game since Kobe Bryant in 2004

When the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Phoenix Suns by a score of 106-103 on Tuesday, LeBron James made a significant amount of NBA history. He can’t go more than a week or two without making history in the NBA. Due to the fact that it propelled the Los Angeles Lakers to Las Vegas for the very first time in the history of the In-Season Tournament semifinals, the victory itself was historically significant. In spite of the fact that they will be playing the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday, the real story of the night was his individual contributions to bring them there.

While leading the Lakers to victory, James finished the game with 31 points, 11 assists, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals. He also completed the game with a perfect game. That statistic line made history in a number of different ways. The following is a quick selection:

The last time a Laker player scored 30 points, 10 assists, five rebounds, and five steals in a single game was Magic Johnson in 1987. James is the first Laker player to accomplish this feat. Moreover, James has the record for being the oldest player in NBA history to have a game with 30 points, 10 assists, and five steals. Since Kobe Bryant accomplished this feat in 2004, James is the only Laker player to play in a game in which he recorded 20 points, 10 assists, and five steals.

The fact that the In-Season Tournament is still relatively new means that James has the opportunity to establish new records that other players will eventually be able to break. James has been making and breaking records for almost twenty years now, but the beauty of the tournament lies in the fact that it is so new. With five games under his belt, he is now in ninth place in the competition in terms of overall points (131), assists (41), steals (nine), and rebounds (40). Should the Lakers advance to the championship game, it is not out of the question that he may end up leading or finishing in close proximity in a number of those categories.

James just performed one of the most memorable individual performances of the In-Season Tournament thus far, regardless of whether or not he does end up winning the tournament. This is without a doubt going to be one of the games that stands out in our memories when we look back on the beginning of the tournament many years from now.
