Bronny James, son of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, experienced a heart arrest on the practice court this summer as he prepared to begin his college basketball career with the University of Southern California.
Fortunately, USC personnel acted fast and were able to get Bronny to a hospital as soon as possible to manage the unexpected condition.
The terrifying on-court incident cast serious doubt on Bronny’s ability to continue his basketball career at USC and whether his ambition of playing in the NBA had come to an end.
Bronny made his Trojans debut on Sunday, after fully recovering from his cardiac attack, in what was a momentous day for him, his family, and all those who have been rooting for him to recover, including Phoenix Suns great Kevin Durant, who came to Twitter to show his support.
Along with Durant, retired Miami Heat superstar and former LeBron James teammate Dwyane Wade expressed his support for Bronny on Twitter, saying it gave him chills to see the young athlete return to the court on Sunday.
Bronny finished with four points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals in 17 minutes off the bench as USC fell to Long Beach State.
Even if the loss ruined Bronny’s debut, it was a huge step forward for the 19-year-old, who may build on this experience and continue his basketball career.
