Despite frequently finding himself on historic NBA lists for remarkable performances, Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic experienced the opposite as he landed on an unfavorable record after a challenging shooting night against the Houston Rockets.
With a shooting percentage of just 31.0% in his last two games, Jokic joined George Mikan as the only other center in NBA history to shoot that poorly over a two-game stretch, considering a minimum of 55 field goal attempts.
Known for his historical efficiency, Jokic’s recent struggles were evident in shooting 9/32 against the LA Clippers and 9/26 against the Rockets. While the minimum 55 field goal attempts for this criteria limit the qualifiers, highlighting the high volume of shots over a two-game span, this statistic underscores the atypical downturn in Jokic’s shooting performance.
According to Basketball Reference’s StatHead, cited by StatMamba on X, there have been 686 instances of a center attempting at least 55 field goal attempts across a two-game span. Jokic’s 31.0% clip in these two games ranks as the 5th worst ever, and is the worst by any player not named George Mikan.
The Nuggets suffered defeats in both of these games, losing 111-102 to the Clippers and 114-106 to the Rockets. Although still in a decent position at 14-9, Denver has slipped from its usual spot near the top of the Western Conference.
Currently four games behind the leader, the Nuggets are tied with the Lakers at 14-9 for the 4th seed and are just a few percentage points behind the 13-8 Mavericks for the 3rd seed.
