Los Angeles Lakers have eliminated the Golden State Warriors, the reigning NBA champions.
With a 122-101 victory on Friday night, LeBron James scored thirty points to send the Lakers into the NBA Conference Finals after they won their semifinal series in six games.
The top-seeded Nuggets, led by Nikola Jokic, will take on the seventh-seeded Lakers on Tuesday night in Denver in the Western Conference finals. The superstar also finished with nine rebounds and nine assists.
The Lakers, powered by Anthony Davis (17 points and 20 rebounds), won handily in a tight game that marked the culmination of their amazing late-season run.
Austin Reaves led the Lakers with 23 points, including a 54-footer from midcourt at the buzzer that signaled halftime. Several celebrities were present in the crowd at Crypto.Com Arena.
“It’s truly remarkable to triumph over such a seasoned and talented team,” Reaves remarked.
The seeding things, in my opinion, are just numbers. Having players with championship experience like Bron and AD makes you feel like you have a shot, especially with the skill and roster we have.
After defeating the Warriors three times in a row to end the regular season, the Lakers increased their home record to 7-0 against them.
Additionally, Los Angeles ended Golden State’s record-breaking run of 28 postseason series in which they won at least one on the road, which spanned Stephen Curry’s whole professional career.
The Lakers, led by James and Davis, are the only club to have eliminated Curry’s Warriors from the playoffs before they advance to the NBA Finals since 2014.
Darvin Ham, the head coach in his first year, remarked, “It’s been a challenging year, to say the least, but we kept powering through.”
Our spirits remained upbeat, and our new pieces eventually came together. I can’t contain my excitement about getting to take a seat here and enjoy the ride.
While missing the playoffs completely in the other two seasons, Golden State has participated in six of the previous eight NBA Finals.
For the sixth-seeded Warriors, Curry finished with 32 points despite missing 10 of his 14 3-point attempts. However, their quest for their fifth championship in nine seasons came to an abrupt halt after three straight road losses and a lackluster offensive display from Curry’s teammates in Game 6, which included a 3-of-19 performance from Klay Thompson, who missed 10 of his 12 3-point attempts.
“I can’t fault our players for their effort; the better team prevailed,” Golden State coach Steve Kerr remarked.
It will hurt because these guys are such fierce competitors. However, that is the whole point of playing: to test our mettle against the greatest. Not quite enough, but not for want of heart or effort either.
When it mattered most, the Splash Brothers were far too dry against the Lakers: in the final four games of the series, Thompson was 10 for 36 3-pointers while Curry was 14 for 49.
The Warriors’ Donte DiVincenzo scored a playoff-high 16 points, but no one of their four starters scored in double figures (Curry shot 11 for 38).
“Very disappointing,” remarked Draymond Green. We completed in May, so it’s been a while. I’m still processing the emotions. They proved to be the superior team in the end.
The 38-year-old James, a four-time NBA champion, led the Lakers in a balanced effort that saw them take the lead early in the first quarter and coast through the Warriors’ rare rallies until blowing it open in the fourth.
The 20-year veteran led the Lakers’ offensive effort while Davis, who returned to the court following a scare with a head injury in Game 5, produced another outstanding defensive performance. Davis can still command respect as much as any elite player.
Dennis Schroder, the Lakers’ key defender and sparkplug guard, was ejected in the third quarter, but D’Angelo Russell managed to score 19 points and the team pulled through.
After picking up his second technical foul of the game after a play involving Draymond Green, Schroder was ejected, but the Warriors didn’t seem to benefit much from his absence as they frequently missed open baskets.
