Following Michael Porter Jr.’s recent championship victory with the Denver Nuggets, there’s another Porter making waves in the NBA. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Jontay Porter, Michael’s younger brother, is set to sign a two-way contract with the Toronto Raptors, the reigning NBA champions. Jontay commenced the current season with the Motor City Cruise, the G League affiliate of the Detroit Pistons.
Similar to his older brother, Jontay was once a highly regarded recruit in high school but faced multiple setbacks due to injuries, including consecutive ACL tears in 2018 and 2019.
Despite going undrafted in 2019, he secured a deal with the Memphis Grizzlies as a rookie, albeit making only 11 appearances before being waived. In the G League with the Cruise this season, Jontay has showcased his skills, averaging an impressive 16.8 points and 10.7 rebounds per game over ten contests.
At just 24 years old, Jontay presents potential with his versatility as a 6-foot-11 forward, bringing both scoring and defensive capabilities (3-and-D). While this signing may be flying under the radar amid other basketball news in Toronto, the younger Porter’s journey to the Raptors adds another chapter to the family’s basketball narrative.
