During an episode of the Pardon My Take podcast, Wagner shared an anecdote from his rookie season with the Lakers, recalling a game against Durant and the Warriors.
Despite spending only 11 minutes on the court coming off the Lakers’ bench, Wagner found himself fouled by Durant during a three-point attempt. This prompted the rookie to engage in some lighthearted trash talk with the 13-time NBA All-Star.

“I didn’t even realize it was him,” Wagner said. “I turned around and was like, ‘Yeah, you can’t guard me.’”
Durant came across the clip of Wagner’s storytelling on social media and responded with a witty one-liner.
Following Wagner’s foul, Durant, along with Draymond Green and DeMarcus Cousins, engaged in some good-natured teasing as Wagner took his free throws. Despite the banter, the rookie struggled, missing two out of three attempts.
Reflecting on the experience, Wagner admitted, “I’m telling you, I was so shook.”
The playful trash talk persisted into the next possession, with Durant orchestrating a sequence that resulted in a wide-open Green cutting to the hoop for an effortless layup.
In his sixth NBA season, Moritz Wagner has significantly solidified his presence since that memorable night in Los Angeles. Currently playing alongside his brother Franz in Orlando, Wagner has become a more established player, showcasing an impressive performance. He is averaging 13.0 points on 63.3% shooting across 20 games in the current season.
