The Phoenix Suns were trailing the Los Angeles Lakers by 105-103 after Kevin Durant made a basket, and after the subsequent inbounds pass, they dribbled the ball away from Lakers wing Austin Reaves. LeBron James, a star player for the Los Angeles Lakers, called for a timeout during the scramble, and it was granted with seven seconds remaining on the clock. With a score of 106-103, Los Angeles victory.

The rationale that is provided in the report is as follows: “LAL is granted a timeout when Reaves (LAL) recovers the ball and pins it against his leg, before he loses it again.”

When crew chief Josh Tiven stated that Reaves had the ball pressed against his leg, which constituted possession, it was the same explanation that was given in the pool report.

Devin Booker, a key player for the Suns, reported after the game that “the whole world witnessed it… The fact of the matter is that referees do make mistakes from time to time, but when they are that clear, it is difficult. Head coach Frank Vogel referred to the scenario as a “loose ball” and described it as an exceedingly disheartening moment.

There was also a discussion in the report about the reach-in foul that Lakers wing Cam Reddish committed on Booker, which prevented a fast break with forty seconds remaining. In the final two minutes of the game, the rule that states that a transition take foul is not applicable is not enforced.

The Suns were able to use the three incorrect no calls that were on the list to their advantage in the final stretch of the game.
