On Sunday afternoon, Trent Alexander-Arnold believed he had scored a world-class free kick. However, the Premier League had different plans.
The right-back’s long-range free kick against Fulham gave the score its first goal when it struck the underside of the crossbar.
In order to continue celebrating, Alexander-Arnold pulled out his hushed celebration from last week in front of the Man City supporters.
“The world’s best fullback is Trent Alexander-Arnold.” Never misunderstand it,” someone said on X.
“Trent Alexander-Arnold at it again,” said a second. He is who he is.
“Trent Alexander-Arnold, best in the world,” said an other person.
After reviewing the goal, the Premier League declared it to be an own goal by Bernd Leno.
According to the replay, it struck the Fulham goalie in the back of the head before entering.
A post on the Premier League website read: “The ball came back of the bar and hit the ‘keeper before crossing the line.”
Harry Wilson, a former Liverpool player, equalized after just four minutes.
In the 38th minute, Alexis Mac Allister gave Liverpool the lead with an incredible long-range strike that Bernd Leno had no chance of stopping.
Mac Allister’s first goal for the team since coming from Brighton was that one.
Once more, the advantage did not last long as Kenny Tete tied the score in additional time during the first half for Fulham.
At first, the goal was disqualified for offside, but replays revealed Darwin Nunez was trying to score.
Nunez struck the crossbar during Liverpool’s second-half opportunities, but Fulham scored the following goal.
Bobby De Cordova-Reid beat Konstantinos Tsimikas to the ball with a header at the back post.
In a thrilling 4-3 victory at Anfield, Wataru Endo scored an equalizer in the 87th minute and Alexander-Arnold eventually scored the winning goal.
