Trent Alexander-Arnold’s incredible late volley against Fulham capped a monumental Liverpool comeback.
After easily defeating LASK 4-0 in the Europa League on Thursday night, Liverpool looked to extend their unbeaten home record against Fulham at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
After taking the lead twice with to goals from Alexander-Arnold and the incredible Alexis Mac Allister, Fulham was able to respond on both occasions.
With ten minutes remaining, Bobby Decordova-Reid headed home a cross from Tom Cairney to give Fulham a 3-2 lead and shock Anfield into stillness.
Wataru Endo, however, closed the gap to 3-3 before Alexander-Arnold came through for his side when they most needed him.
Alexander-Arnold received a lovely pass after Fulham headed clear a cross, and he brilliantly volleyed the ball into the bottom corner to make it 4-3 and throw Anfield into meltdown.
The crucial three points have put Liverpool over Manchester City versus Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League standings.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock said: “You can’t say that you saw it coming because Fulham were so, so good defensively for the majority of this game. But that won’t be of much consolation to them.
“Those two goals have just turned this game completely on its head.”
He continued: “A huge three points for Liverpool and a huge sigh of relief, those players know they have been in a game.
“They have had to pull out three outstanding goals to beat this Fulham side, two of which were world-class. If Fulham continue to play as they have done here today for the rest of the season they will be absolutely fine.”
Liverpool will be back in Premier League action on Wednesday night when they travel to Bramall Lane to take on struggling Sheffield United.
